Lee Phillips
is an illustrator who lives and works in Narberth. In this his first
exhibition at The Last Gallery Lee shows his continuous line drawings
and 2 new paintings, as well as a selection of sketchbooks.
The rooftops
he records in this series often trace the last line between our bustling
social environment and its serene expanse above. By studying and recording
the summit of this landscape he finds tranquillity in the busiest of
cities. This sense of peace, and often solitude, is depicted in his
work through the negative spaces surrounding his subjects.
The compositions
Lee chooses to record are often areas that for whatever reasons generally
go un-noticed. They may be views from areas of limited access, have
the misfortune of being sited opposite the V & A Museum or are simply
neglected because people just don’t look up.
Lee completed
his General Illustration degree in Swansea, an MA in Visual Communication
and a PGCE in Art & Design, graduating in 2005. Lee has lived and
worked in Carmarthenshire for past ten years and is currently living
in Llanmill.
The exhibition
runs each weekend from Saturday 4th June to Sunday 19th June.
